Ian's Story

Originally a piano student of the very skilled Gaynor Leighton-Hoggett (during which he achieved ABRSM piano grades 1-4) followed by Simon Percy (during which he achieved ABRSM piano grades 5-7 and music theory grade 5), Ian progressed to college and studied music further under David Parker.

It was at college that Ian began singing lessons under Gillian Parker (during which he achieved ABRSM singing grade 5) and took part in public choral and orchestral works such as 'The Creation' by Haydn. Ian has performed under virtuoso conductors such as the late Jeffery Babb. He also made many piano performances locally.

Since starting teaching piano in 2012 he has put dozens of students through ABRSM and MTB piano grades and guided their progress, helping them become aspiring musicians.

After a 20-year break from exams, Ian achieved a distinction in grade 8 piano in 2021 after around 22 weeks of self study.
This was followed by 45 weeks of self-study throughout 2021, culminating in a ARSM piano diploma which was achieved on December 1st of the same year.

In May of 2023 Ian achieved the AMTB diploma with the MTB exam board.
